Climate-Bites: Nurturing Youth Agency through Food Awareness

null

The Climate-Bites: Nurturing Youth Agency through Food Awareness (Climate-Bites) initiative is an international online training programme in Germany and Hungary aimed at empowering young people by raising awareness about food systems and dietary habits. Through this lens, it seeks to illustrate the connections between climate change and young people's everyday lives, promoting awareness and encouraging active engagement with these critical topics.

This empowerment is promoted by training teachers, informal educators and organisations dedicated to environmental education for young people in Germany and Hungary. Climate-Bites project participants will collaborate to explore tools and methods for education for sustainable development (ESD), through the design and implementation of a Food Co-Development Lab (Food Co-Lab) and an in-person event with field trips and site visits with Food CoLab participants. By the end of the five-week programme, participants are expected to have acquired new skills and knowledge that they can incorporate into their daily work with young people. A survey will also be conducted as part of the project to gain insights into young people's perceptions of food systems and climate change. This survey will help to identify areas where young people's understanding and skills can be improved to promote greater environmental literacy. The results of this survey will serve as a basis for the development of formal and non-formal education programmes in the target regions and for a public awareness campaign.

Objectives:

The main objective of the Climate-Bites project is to capacitate and empower young people, equipping them with essential skills and the right mindset to become active agents in the transition to a regenerative food system. This empowerment will be fostered by training teachers, informal educators and organisations dedicated to environmental education for young people in Germany and Hungary.

Target group:

The target group is ten (10) teachers, informal educators, and staff of local organisations working with young people from Germany and Hungary.
