Sustainability Co-development Lab: Tourism program for environmental education organisations working with youth populations

null

European citizens comprise the majority of international travellers worldwide. International mobility is increasing as a rebound effect after the pandemic. While holistic solutions are needed to tackle climate change, tourism contributes around 10% of global emissions. Furthermore, many tourism practices are based on, and therefore continue to support inequality and interdependence. As Europeans constitute the largest group of active travellers, they need tools and good practices to link their responsibilities with their actions to contribute to diversity and inclusion in international travel.

The Sustainability Co-development Lab (T-Lab) project strengthens the capacity of local organisations working in the field of environmental education in Germany and Spain. The project aims to educate and raise awareness among young travellers about tourism, its social dimensions (diversity and inclusion) and environmental impacts, and to equip them with skills for green job prospects, developing innovative pedagogical methodologies in a co-creation process with organisations from Germany and Spain, while increasing their capacity. The project will organise a 5-week training programme, two workshops on sustainable tourism with youth, an online community, as well as one T-Lab methodological toolkit for education on sustainable tourism.

Objectives:
The main objective of the T-Lab project is strengthening the capacity of local organisations working in the field of environmental education in Germany and Spain to educate and sensitise young travellers about tourism, its social dimensions (diversity and inclusion) and environmental effects (particularly climate change).

Target group:
The target group is ten (20) teachers, informal educators, and staff of local organisations working with young people from Germany and Spain.
